DS1 diagnosed with conjunctivitis (over the phone, by the triage nurse) this morning. they won't treat it, but the eye is really irritating him and I wondered if there was anything I could get over the counter that would just soothe his eye?

he looks like he has been punched in the face, his eye is so swollen and puffy and purply red where he has been rubbing it :(

There is something called goldeneye 1% antibiotic for acute bacterial conjunctivitis that you can buy at boots, but it for over 2s.

its awful, my dd is 10 months and the doctor wont give her anything either. Just have to sit it out. The skin around her eyes is getting really sore now though.

If they are over 2, I think you can buy chloramphenicol drops OTC at the pharmacy.

thanks, i will ask DP if he can come home past the chemist and look for the Golden Eye stuff, or alternative similar product!

Optrex Infected Eyes. GP recommended it to me once.
