Ds2 running fever 3 days now. Went up to 104. Neighbour is gp and thinks cheat infection a d gave us strong abs for 3 days. 1st dose last night. He vomited after 2nd and been sick again. Temp 39.5. Given calpol and ibuprofen. Yesterday he had cold hand and feet and pains in leg and bright light hurt eyes, hence neighbour coming over.

He seemed a bit brighter this morning but now fever, sick, coughing, resp 40-44 per min and fast pulse at least 90 bpm. He's skewing next to me. Don't know whether to call gp first thing or take him to a&e.

I have a 4 month old baby who is ebf and ds2 only wants mummy and when awake distressed if I'm not with him.

If I take him in do I take baby as well? I just feel confused what is best to do :(

IMo you should take him to a&e as soon as possible.

SquirtedPerfumeUpNoseInBoots · 05/03/2012 23:16

I'd go to a & e. Take baby if you can't avoid it.
Go.
Best wishes.

SootySweepandSue · 05/03/2012 23:16

I would take him in.

MamaMaiasaura · 05/03/2012 23:17

Not skewing - sleeping.

Really Sad take him to a&e. I'll have to take baby too, they will let me be with ds. We never spent might apart, not even when dd born.

I would call NHS direct now,as if they are at all concerned they will refer you to A+E. Or call your GP and see if he/she will make a housecall. We've had them visit us when a dd has been ill, horrible to take a sick child in a car to A+E in the night unless you really need to. In fact I think calling the GP first makes sense, but anyway I wouldn't leave it until the morning. He may need a different anti-biotic for a start,as some can cause vomiting.Hope he is better soon.

MamaMaiasaura · 05/03/2012 23:20

On phone to nhs direct now

Should add-my nearest A+E is an hour away, so a GP might get to me faster, and I'd avoid the car journey etc.Yours may be much closer in which case go there.

yellowflowers · 05/03/2012 23:21

A&e and keep baby with you

MamaMaiasaura · 05/03/2012 23:43

Well nhs direct have said they will get gp to call us and could be up to 2 hours. :-( no idea now what to do. Feel like shot mother for not eve getting him seen today but thought he was on the mend.

Are you keeping him cool? Cold flannel on forehead? Not well wrapped up?
Wait and see what dr says, but don't downplay it when he does phone you were worried enough to post here.
Can you plan in advance to get ready to go to hosp if dr advises it?
Don't want to leave you on your own but need to get to bed now.
Hope he improves, they can scare you though can't they!?

Bumping for night owls...

AwkwardMary · 06/03/2012 00:06

No cold flannels...sory squirted but its outdated advice and they advise against it.

I hope he's ok soon OP...it's so worrying,

MamaMaiasaura · 06/03/2012 00:11

Thanks everyone. Times like this I'm glad we co-sleep. He's sleeping next to me between coughing. Feel happier his breathing settled, think that's because his temp come down a little. Its such a massive responsibility being a parent, and when little ones are ill, it's scary incase you get it wrong.

See dr first thing. New course of abs. Cheat infection which she believes started as throat infection. She gave me advice on how to manage if he gets like last night.
