My poor DS has had it going on for nearly 6 weeks now, we've been to the doctors twice and were given antiBs the second time 'just in case' because it'd been going on a while Hmm Well that was over 2 weeks ago and I thought it was getting better, but today it seems worse and when he coughs it smells strange. I will take him back again on Monday, but I guess just need some advice/reassurance really about whether I'm worrying about nothing, it's so hard not to feel like you're overreacting all the time. TIA

My DS had a persistent cough for nearly 3months, antibiotics clear ed the initial infection but he coughed for about another 8 weeks. For me, the most important thing I kept a check on were temp, any sign of breathing difficulty quicker, shallower or drawing in around ribs and that he still drank lots and seemed himself. It did go eventually, my 3 yr old cleared it a little more quickly but there seems to be lots of nasty viruses at the moment. DS also had a strange smell which only i seemed to notic but that went too. I think if you have any concerns you should see your doctor, its horrible when they don't seem to be getting better. Hope your little one is better soon.x

Thank you for your reply, it's so crap when they're poorly, you just feel so helpless! He's definitely tonight, I think I'll give Drs a ring tomorrow and see what they say. Thanks again

DD had a chesty cough at 6 months and the Dr had us use a nebulizer. No antibiotics and it worked well. Her snot production was impressive. 10mins on the nebuilzer resulted in 20mins of nose clearing. Either way get your DS seen ASAP by a dr. Hope he feels better soon.
