pneumonia

My 9 month old baby was in hospital all last week with pneumonia. She went in Sunday night and came home on Friday night. She had oxygen piped through her nose, a cannula put in, she had a saline drip and antibiotics were given intravenously. It was very traumatic for her and for us but thankfully she seems to be recovering now. She also had a strep infection in her blood, but not a particular type identified.
I am supposed to go back to work tomorrow (I work Tuesdays, Wednesdays and Thursdays) and I am planning on asking for at least Tuesday and Wednesday off as I don't want to abandon her in the Nursery too soon after such a traumatic experience. Plus I want to finish off giving her antibiotics first. But is it too soon to send her to Nursery on Thursday? What do other people think? I am not sure how sympathetic my employers will be. I have already emailed them (yesterday) and have not yet received a reply and have phoned today but they are not at their desk. How much time off to take care of her at home is reasonable? She is not eating too well also, and I'm breastfeeding her.

I wouldn't send her into nursery until the antibiotics are finished and she is feeling more herself (feeding well etc) when Ds had pneumonia he was at least 3 weeks before he was ready for nursery again.

I'd ask for the week off too.
Also if she had a strep infection you may find the nursery won't take her until it's cleared.

She must be totally exhausted (and you) and probably quite run down and open to other infections. So I would definitely keep her this week home and then see how she gets on. Good luck.
