Found out today my lovely nephew has type 1 diabetes. Feel so sad for him and my sister and bil. I'm hoping someone may have a similar experience and even tell me some positives.
Thank you

Hi Bubbles
I've had type 1 since i was in junior school and am absolutely fine! It was far worse for my mum than it was for me, your nephew will be absolutely fine! It will be a lot for them to get used to but things will eventually become normal again....I don't think of myself as being any different and it's never stopped me doing anything!

If you need any advice ask away! :)

Thank you. Good to hear he will be ok...it's all just a bit scarey at the moment. Bless him!

My brother developed type 1 diabetes when he was 1.5. He is now going to be 40 this year and has lived life as normal ( apart from being careful when and how much/what he eats)
Things should be OK when your sister and family learn how to manage it - which I am sure that they will.

my dd was dx at 3 yrs old ..Sad i am sorry this has happened to your nephew and his mum and dad - they will probably be in shock
Get her to sign up for the childrenwithdiabetes UK mailing list - they will get so much help and support there
He will be ok - my dd is now almost 13, on an insulin pump and doing great but you all have a big learning curve ahead of you Sad
Hugs x
