Newborn snuffles

Am posting this again (already in Sleep section and Behaviour) as would love to have some advice:

DS is now 8wo and is still really snuffly to the point where he will wake himself up and not be able to catch his breath. It is horrible

When do these ease? He is still too little for the products on the market which are designed to help - snufflebabe, olbas oil etc - although will admit to putting some snufflebabe on a muzzy and putting it round the handles of his moses baskets... doesn't seem to have had any effect however!

I'm wondering if we should get him checked over as don't remember DD having these issues but she's a summer baby and he's obvioulsy winter. Plus DD has started nursery and so it bringing all sorts of germs home so it might be he's just got a cold (although no snot, he does have a cough!)...

Thanks so much - it does worry me a lot as he is struggling to breath at times and it's making it quite tough for me to drop off at night!

There is a saline liquid that you can get from the chemist. A drop up the nose can help clear the nostrils. My newborn had some when she was 2 days old in hospital. The nurse did it and it helped clear her nose.
She got sniffles from her big sis at 4 weeks but it cleared after 2 days and was only at night so I didn't buy it. The clinic nurse recommeded the same drops.

Thank you so much - we have some of those drops from one of the visits to the GP about this. Not sure how much they help to be honest but they certainly don't make it any worse... I think it might be some sort of cold, as it's got worse the last week but he has always had it :(

It just seems to be constant although someone else has suggested it might just be gunk from the birth which can linger... anyone else had experience of this?
