Remedies for Night Time Cough in 2yr Old?

Ok so the cough syrups suitable for toddlers are pretty useless. DS's cough is getting worse although at the moment is only at night-time and not really during the day. I've raised the end of his cot a bit to try and help. He doesn't have a temp and is his normal self during the day (perhaps a bit more cranky than usual as he's not sleeping very well due to the cough).

Just wondering if anybody had any good remedies for helping to soothe night-time coughs? I'd like him to have a bottle of water in his cot but not sure he'd understand? He's 2.2yr.

Thanks in advance
Pie

The only medicines that work for coughs ime are the ones that say 12+ so definitly not on for your 2 year old. Sleeping with lots of pillows is the best thing I've found, or even propped up in an armchair. It's lying flat down that makes you cough a lot more at night.

Take him to gp. He may need an inhaler. We had this problem with ds starting from when he was a baby and invested in a humidifier. It made a huge difference to his chest. Only problem is you would need to put it high up so that he cannot scold himself with the steam. Ours was on a floating shelf.
We bought it in tkmaxx for around £15.

We use those Karvol inhalers when he's got a cold but his nose isn't blocked up at all, it's just a horrible night-time cough he's got. Last time the GP wouldn't give him anything and said 'it will go away by itself in 3 weeks or so' which, admittedly it did, but this one is worse than last time.

He also sleeps on his front, rather than his back so i'd be a bit nervous putting pillows in his cot. I know though that when i've got a bad cough I sleep sat up in bed with a V pillow!

Have heard lots of good things about humidifiers though so might have to invest in one.

Will prop his cot up a bit more tonight and see how he goes. I think if he could have a drink of water it would also really help but half the time he seems to be coughing in his sleep IYSWIM as when-ever I look in the monitor he isn't moving or wriggling around just coughing!
