DS sent home from school

My ds (15) has been sent home today after developing flu like symptoms. The nurse at school thought it was the onset of flu but just wanted to see if anyone else had this recently. He has been off the last two days with a really sore stomach but was fine this morning. Now he has back pain , neck ache, headache, slight sore throat, stomach pain and is really cold.
Is this going around at the minute?

Can he move his neck, and does he have reaction to light?

If his neck is stiff get him to see if he can kiss his knee (yes he'll love that suggestion). If he can't get to A&E.

It could just be a general virus, sounds flu-ey but if he's deteriorating you need to get him seen potentially quickly.

Have just got him to kiss his knee which he could do. Can move his neck although it is sore. Has just looked at his light and again says it is sore but bearable.

Does he have a temperature?

CheeseandPickledOnion · 24/02/2012 13:23

Phone NHS Direct.

They took his temperature at school and told him it was lower than normal. She gave him some paracetamol, just taken it again and it was 35.8

I had these symptoms last week. I felt awful but just have a cold now.

Could you give your doctor a call to check?

Catsdontcare · 24/02/2012 13:27

Ds was complaining of a bad stomach this week and has now come down with flu like symptoms.

I am thinking glandular fever. Could be any ol' virus, though.

I had something like this a while ago, at least it started like that - though ended up with no voice and a cough. There are lots of very tired, achey, cold, sore tummy (but no vomiting), slight sore throat viruses around...I would keep an eye on his temp, and give it a day or two. Hope he feels better soon.
