8 week old - no poo for over three days

I was just wondering whether I should be worried that my 8 week old DS hasn't had a proper poo for over three days. He had a v.explosive poo on Sat and since then we've had lots of wet nappies and one with a big skid mark (sorry TMI) but no properly dirty nappies. Up to this point he had been producing a least one dirty nappy a day. He's got quite a lot of wind which is v.smelly, but other than that doesn't seem any different to normal. He's feeding as usual, not overly straining....I'm going to call the dr tomorrow but was just wondering if anyone else had experience of this and if I should be concerned?

Is he breastfed? If so anything up to about 10 days is normal - there was a poster a while ago whose baby went 3 weeks Shock

Hi RitaMorgan - thanks for the info, he's mostly having expressed breast milk, but have started to introduce a little formula as I want to step away from having to express, so it may be he's a little constipated from that. There's still no sign of the elusive dirty nappy and didn't call the doc today as after I posted I did a bit of googling and read that a week is normal and so it sounds like we're still ok. I can't imagine what a 3 week poo would be like !?! Hoping DS sorts himself out before then, will def call the dr on Friday

If he is having formula too then I would call the Dr.

Ok will do first thing in the morning - just out of interest why is it more important to speak to the dr if he's also havig formula?

Exclusively breastfed babies don't get constipated, but formula changes the gut so they can get constipated - so Dr might be able to advise if there is a problem/what to do.

My 7 weeker has just started going 4 days between poos. Then let me tell you when it comes it is poo-magedon ! The nappy physically stands no chance.

Both my DTs are combination fed, and from about 6 weeks old they have both pooed every 2 days ( usually around 11am!). i have spoken to the HV and the GP and they said that as long as the stools are not hard when they arrive then this is fine, quite normal.

Thanks all! went to the dr's this morning and they prescribed us a suppository and some lactolase and these have definately got things moving....the first poo was mahosive i can tell you and required DS having a bath to clean it all up Shock. The little mite was a tad upset by it all, but things seem to be settling down now....dr also recommended trying a different formula, so have also been to the shops to pick up a different brand. while it was all v. messy I'm so relieved DS is having poo's again - was getting really worried there for a while
