Blood in 9 month old pooh

Reenypip · 19/02/2012 16:58

My boy is 9 months, he has what looks like blood in his pooh. It can't be any red food colouring because he hasn't had any red coloured food in last few days or week.

I will be ringing health visitor first thing tomorrow.
Anyone else had blood in their baby pooh? What caused it if known?
He had a large soft pooh, over half of it was red, the rest was yellow/brown.

Are your children’s vaccines up to date?

Oh if its that much you really need to call NHS direct imo.

I take it he hasn't had tomato soup / beetroot / strawberries or anything like that? Is he otherwise well. Is it bright red? Could he have eaten any playdough or anything?

If it had just been a little bit I'd have said probably from a cut etc but it sounds like a lot so please call NHS.

Hiya, no red food at all.... And don't have no play dough in house.
It looks very odd.
Have you ever added red food colouring into a mixing bowl of dough / icing? It looks like that, the colour.

Yeah I think you need to call.

Does he have any pain whilst pooing? If it gets more red in future poos, it could be a milk protein intolerance or allergy irritating his gut or an infection.

I second that maybe wise to call local out of hours surgery.

And keep the dirty nappy as they may want to see it.

Reenypip · 19/02/2012 17:14

I don't think there any pain when he poohs , it's been very loose pooh last couple of days. The poo was this morning if I get another nappy like it I'll keep it. I did take a pic on my phone of it.
