Recurrent gastroenteritis symptoms in 1yo - advice please

DS2 had a 5 day bout of viral gastroenteritis a couple of weeks ago.
We managed to keep him hydrated with dioralyte and after he finally stopped puking he made a reasonably quick recovery.

He had a week of normal diet and seemed his usual self other than a very snotty cold / cough.

However, for the last 4 days he's had diarrhoea again (4-5 x /day) and vomitting once a day, either in the early hours (usually wakes and has bf during the night) or on waking, which seems to have some undigested food from the previous evening meal.
His appetite varies from very poor to ravenous and he is being very selective about which foods he'll eat. I'm not particularly concerned about this at the moment as he is having enough fluids and several bf a day and is having a dose of Abidec most days.

In between the sickness and diarrhoea (he does seem to be having pain, presumably stomach cramps before the diarrhoea) he is his usual happy and energetic self and I'm not concerned about hydration so I have held off returning to the GP (who wanted to see us daily to assess hydration a few weeks ago).

Does anyone else have experience of this, is it just a hangover from the gastroenteritis or should I be heading back to GP?
Any advice would be gratefully received.

TIA

I think theres a certain bug Im not 100% sure of its name that most children get under the age of 2 and then they are immune to it.

My eldest had exactly what you are describing when she was about 19 months .

The other possibility is that milk causes the bug to replicate and grow again, apparantly Iv eheard you should avoid milk , breast or other when thay have a bug and just give water or diarolyte until the symptoms go.

Thanks SummerskyeSmile
I have googled a bit and wondered if it was rotavirus causing a temporary lactose intolerance. Whatever it is he does seem better today, didn't puke last night and although diarrhoea still there, doesn't seem as bad. His appetite was better today.
On the downside he is coughing and sounds croaky and DS1 (3.7) has just woken very hot and crying about his sore throat.
Looks like another disturbed night here Sad
