Leg problems or growing pains?

Hi all,

I'm feeling a little concerned for my 2 y.o who seems to be having issues from time to time with his legs and knees. It's kind of hard to pinpoint but he is clearly occassionally in pain and points to his legs or knees and he has started to not like the process of standing up.
For the most part he is fine though and walks normally, has lots of energy and is happy and it doesn't seem constant.

I don't know, is 2 years 7 months too early for growing pains and do they normally affect the knees?
How would a doctor even diagnose that?

It's entirely possible too that he has strained or twisted a knee somehow which I guess not much can be done for but sometimes he points to both legs.

We have to take our youngest for his checkup next week so we will book the eldest in too.

Any advice or pointers would be much appreciated. :)

my ds has hypermobile joints and has had leg pains from a young age. We find that swimming helps. Could it be something like that perhaps?

I honestly have no idea, this only started this week. We first noticed as he was getting out of the car and said "It hurts".
Which is another possibility it could be related to, maybe spending too much time strapped in to the car seat. It was only a a couple of just under 2 hour stints but that was when we first noticed it.

It's hard because he is often pointing at different places on his legs or knees but whether that is more to do with suggestion and dramatics I don't know. But at times he certainly feels something.

maybe just keep an eye on it then?

My daughter (5) will sometimes say that her knees hurt and sometimes moans when she's climbing stairs. She particularly says it when she's coing down with a bug - it's like an early warning for me. I wonder if it's some sort of inflammatory response?

Anyway, just throwing that in there in case it's related to infection. Hope you get some good advice from others.

My son has hypermobile joints and is exactly what you describe. I took him to the docs for years to be told growing pains, when he was four and a half I had him referred to be told he is hypermobile (basically very flexible) and needs inserts in his shoes. Have really helped to be fair. Doc told me no such thing as growing pains. Hope this helps, worth checking out x x

Thanks for your replies. :)

That gives me a few things to think about.
This morning has been a bit worse so if things don't improve during the day I think we will go to the doc earlier than planned. I'm not sure if giving him some baby neurofen or paracetamol will help, I guess it can't hurt.

Actually now that I think about it he does this thing where he bends his fingers in an odd way, maybe you guys are onto something with hypermobility.

Dd at this age used to cry with pain after she had been sitting on my shoulders. We found out later that she is hypermobile.
