Can anyone check this dosage for me?

My dd had a prescription for co-amoxiclav, strength 125/31, 0.9mls 3x per day.

Her repeat prescription has come through and it is co-amoxiclav, strength 400mg/57mg/5ml, 1ml 2x per day.

To my untrained brain, the second prescription seems a much stronger dose, when it is only meant to be a prophylactic dose.

Can anyone clarify for me if these doses/sttengths seem the same? Thanks.

Hi cupoftea, not 100% sure but I would say it sounds like 3 x stronger suspension but given in a smaller dose. Is 400ml the amount in bottle? Call NHS direct and they will have a pharmacist check for you.

Are you Beatrice's mum? If so I remember speaking to you on your thread they day you found you were to give birth ASAP,I have name changed since but have followed some of your story and she is beautiful, well done! (if you are someone else then accept my apologies and baby brain!)

It does sound like a much much higher dose to be honest, maybe phone your doctor first thing in the morning? And query the prescription.

Co amox is a funny medicine because as the dose increases the ratio of the two drugs change as it is a combination of two medicines ...it doesn't sound right me but I am a pead nurse not a pharmacist !!
