DS1 is ill again, should I be worried?

DS1 is 4yo and will be 5 in March. Since the start of the year he's been ill a few times. He had impetigo the first week back after Xmas so had to have a week off school. He was fine with it, he didn't feel ill but just had the scab.

Then we had a couple of weeks of nothing, he was fine.

At the end of Jan he wasn't very well, he was really hot and we went to the GP and he said he had a viral infection, his ears and throat were a bit red, his tonsils were swollen but it wasn't tonsilitis and his nose was really blocked. I was told to give him paracetamol and ibruprofen. after 3 days he was fine.

Now this morning he woke up saying he has headache and is very hot again. He's had calpol and ibruprofen and his temp has come down. He isn't right at all but he feel better than he did.

NHS direct say its ok to self medicate at home but to ring back if he gets worse.

Is it normal for a 4yo to be ill so often? Is it maybe a rough patch as there has been at least 1 child of a week in his class since Xmas?

He was fine before his impetigo, hadn't been ill other than the odd cough or runny nose.

Thanks

It is quite normal as he's young and being exposed to new viruses everyday at school etc.
Nothing you can do except ensure he has a healthy diet and plenty of sleep to keep hi little body at it's peak.

The fact that e has recovered quickly from his previous viruses is a good sign that his immune system is working well.

Thanks, he's just sat up and asked for some lunch and is laughing at Tom and Jerry so I am hoping the medicine is kicking in.

My ds is slightly younger than yours and I wish that was all the illnesses he'd had. Grin

Ds is 3 months older than your ds. Last term he had

Slapped cheek
Chickenpox
Ear infection
Chest infection
Sickness bugs x2/3
Various viruses

Its normal sadly.

Totally sympathise. My DS is 4.5yo and has been a fit and healthy child until end of Nov last year. He's had 4 lots of Tonsillitis and 1 virul infection since then. He was supposed to have his Tonsils removed last week but had to cancel as he's unwell again!!! So frustrating. Doctor recommended Minadex as a tonic/vitamin supplement. Maybe give that a try if you don't already use it?
