dd2 has got 4 chicken pox like spots on her legs. They are red with a blister head. She had chicken pox last year. She is not itching or ill. Can this be happening again

Sorry, but you can. I thought it was rare but the number of people who have told me over the last few days that their DC have had it twice...(my DD2 has it at the moment, DD1 had it 6 years ago very mildly so I'm also concerned)

EldonAve · 10/02/2012 10:46

sorry but yes

TimothyClaypoleLover · 10/02/2012 10:48

pud1, sorry but yes you can. I got it twice as a child.

mousymouseafraidofdogs · 10/02/2012 10:51

yes you can. there are different strains about. also, some people are 'non-responders' who cannot aquire immunity.
but usually if someone gets chicken pox again they are milder.

breatheslowly · 10/02/2012 10:53

I have known of hand foot and mouth disease being mistaken for chicken pox, even by doctors. Any chance that was it either time?

pud1 · 10/02/2012 11:02

It is very mild. Just a few spots and no itching. I will have to wait to see if they scab. Thanks all

if they are localised spots then it could be shingles which is a reactivation of the chicken pox virus

AndiMac · 10/02/2012 12:14

Chicken pox is a herpes virus. So just like a cold sore, it can come back again. Fortunately for most people, it doesn't. I've had it twice and shingles once. Not something I'd wish on anyone.

Pancakeflipper · 10/02/2012 12:15

Yes. I have a friend whose daughter has had it at least 3 times. It could be 4 but I have lost count.

Gay40 · 10/02/2012 12:15

Yes. I've had it 4 times and I never get shingles.
Some people just do, apparently.
