Just got called to nursery to assist my poor daughter with a poo that she'd been trying to do for 10 mins. She gave up when I arrived so we got in the car & came home, she fell asleep. On waking she wanted to try again so we ran a warm bath and she eventually got it out, lots of tears and pain poor love. Anyway the point is to ask what should I do to avoid this happening again. She has a good diet with lots of fresh fruit, she does love bread, pasta and crackers tho ( on their own) but I always try to balance it. She drinks well. What else can I give her please?

Is it a common thing? Maybe she just didn't want to poo at nursery? If your daughter has constipation often, it's probably better to take her to the GP for advice.

If it's a one off, a glass of fruit juice each day can help - the sugar helps keep the poo soft, and easier to pass. Also what about using higher fibre breakfast cereal - though maybe speak to the HV first as too much fibre can cause a problem with absorption of nutrients.

My 3 year old dd occasionally gets constipated and I always get prune juice to help it. She won't drink much of it, maybe up to 1/3 or 1/2 cup a day. Usually her stool is back to normal within one or two days.
It's awful having to see them in so much pain with it and not being able to help :(

Thank you both, it is a 1st though sometimes her poo is very hard and pellet like. She's been before at nursery no probs. will see doc and will try prune juice. Thanks again and yes was terrible.
