Hi,

My ds is 16mo and has a terrible cough and cold. I also believe he has a dust allergy (eyes stream a lot, often seems to be stuffed up, dh has a terrible dust allergy too) and last night he was awake from 9pm until 2am, eventually going practically hysterical with exhaustion. We're both completely shattered today. I know it says on Phenergan bottles only for over 5's but how awful would it be to give ds 1ml to dry his nose and help him sleep? a friend told me thats what it will do...

There's a huge difference between the size of a 16 month old toddler and a 5 year old child. I wouldn't even consider this, sorry. Pop him to the GP and see if you can get something on prescription to help.

if you think it is allergy related then piriton is suitable for over 1's

headfairy · 06/02/2012 18:43

definitely go for piriton rather than phenergan... piriton will also help him sleep too which i imagine you're hoping the phenergan will do (my mum used to use it as a sedative when we were hyper Hmm)

please be aware that either of these can have the adverse effect on some children - they go hyper. it happened to DD1 when she had piriton for CP, then was prescribed phenergan for a sleeping disorder. I t was anightmare.
