Bump on head, now swollen eyes.

My 4 year old son fell over at nursery on Friday afternoon. He was picked up from nursery and was fine. Nothing out of the ordinary other than the huge lump/bruise/scratch on his forehead. It really was quite large. However, he has had bigger lumps than this in the past and when we took him to hospital we were told that he was fine. They seemed uninterested in the lump and more interested in symptoms of concussion, of which there were none.

However, the initial lump is now less swollen, but his eyes are becoming more swollen. The eye underneath the lump is a bit closed because of the swelling, and the area between his eyes has also become swollen, so both eyes are affected. Again, his behaviour is still normal and he only seems to experience pain when he touches the bruise.

Should I be concerned or is this normal? The nursery did recommend that I take him to hospital, but I didn't think it was necessary because he seemed absolutely fine. I'm now wondering whether that was the best choice.

I would ring nhs direct or go to a walk in centre if you have one nearby. It really is better to get it checked out and for it to be nothing than to leave it and something to develop.

Hi, my ds fell a few weeks ago and hit his cheek on the side of his bed, well the next day his eye was HUGE! Soo swollen. We took him to the walk in and they tested his eyesight and reassured us it was just swelling. I would take him just to be checked if you're worried.
