Baby vomiting a lot, keep feeding?

Hi

My baby (16 weeks) has just been sick a lot, projectile fashion and out of her nose too. I fed her about half an hour afterwards and she was sick again even more than before (enough to soak herself completely, entirely cover my legs and make a large puddle on our bed). She's just been sick a bit more and has now fallen asleep. This is quite out the ordinary god her, she's not often sick.

Should I keep feeding her? She's not dehydrated ATM.

She hasn't got a temperature but is more sleepy than usual. She can be hard to get to sleep but has fallen asleep on my knees Confused

Yes if she wants it you should, even if she throws up she might retain something.

Or try to offer her water or diluted juice? Anything is better than nothing, they can get dehydrated very quickly.
But obviously don't force feed her if she doesn't want it.
(I'm not a medical professional but remember being given this advice with baby similar age to yours!)

Keep feeding as you would normally, breastmilk is good rehydration solution. You may find you need to feed little and often so keep up your food and drink intake.

If she is still vomiting after 24 hours call out of hours GP/NHS Direct for advice just in case. Keep an eye on her hydration, look out for signs of dehydration, see here.

If she develops high fever, has difficulty breathing or is listless/unresponsive take to A&E, but it sounds like a virus and her sleeping more is a sign that her body is fighting it.

btw if she keeps throwing everything up through the night I think I would be calling nhs direct.

Thank you both. She fed a little and went back to sleep. No temp at the moment thankfully.

How is she this morning Three?

She's much better thanks. Keeping the majority of her feeds down. Her fontanelle was sunken first thing but has come back up again now :)

Hope she is feling better.
Is she still sleeping a lot?
You might want to phone NHS, just to be safe.

She's not as sleepy but she's back to throwing everything up again and has had three large leaking out poos in the last two hours. NHS direct have got a nurse phoning us back in four hours to see if there's any change. They just said to keep doing what we're doing. Bleh.

These things sometimes last a while, it will pass eventually. Keep an eye on that fontanelle and how many wet nappies she is having and always call again or take into A&E if you become worried.
