Eczema and Swimming

Hi all,

We go swimming once a week. DS is almost 15mo. He has eczema.

His flare ups are joint creases, face, behind ears and anywhere he decides to aggravate!

Cetraben works for us.

When we swim he has an eczema suit on. As soon as we get home I bath him in the Cetraben emollient and smother him in the cream.

The next day he is sooooo itchy.

Any tips?

Hello - it could be that there is a preservative in the ointment/emollient which is causing irritation. Dry skin treatments such as Epaderm are good, as they have no preservatives, perfume etc. I know of folk who still use Aqueous CREAM, and Docs still prescribe it which is shocking as it is actually a soap alternative, NOT a cream. Try the Epaderm (cream or ointment), not the cheapest, but there is a reason for that. My neice uses it, and I used to work in Dermatology so know a bit about it. Could always be the chemicals in the pool, but best to exhaust all other routes. Good luck
