Reoccurring cellulitis in a 5y

DD1 keeps getting cellulitis - she is on her 3rd bout since April and has sores on her finger, thigh and foot (all pus-y and blistered). The GP has given oral anti-biotics as Fucidin cream hasn't worked again (plus more sores look like they are about to emerge/errupt/??) and a blood test for Diabetes (family history of type II).

She is a pretty clean child, washes hands before eating/after the toilet, isn't filthy and has clean clothes everyday (well, unless her clothes are clean then they get another wear IYSWIM). Why on Earth does she keep getting this? It causes a lot of pain and it's fairly unsightly tbh.

Any ideas anyone?

I can't answer why, but DS has had 2 bouts of this - the first from a cut on his foot which got so bad he had to be hospitalised. I assumed something got into the cut as he was on the beach when it happened Fortunately the second time we recognised the signs and got him antibiotics from the GP before it got too bad. That was a graze on his ankle from falling over in the playground. GP said that it was quite likely to recur having had it once. He didn't seem to know why.

Now I make sure I have antiseptic wound wash and ruthlessly clean all cuts even tiny ones.
Sorry, thats not much help really.

Her first one about 3 fingers went pus-y then her knee (she had fallen over but it had been treated with anti-septic). Unfortunately the nurse at the surgery dressed her knee with a dressing DD1 was allergic to and the pus started pouring out (went through her dressing and her clothes ) so her knee had to be scrubbed down at the walk-in and heavy doses of anti-biotics given. Not fun to say the least.

I am ever so glad that she didn't need to be hospitalised - that must have been frightening.

The pus seems to be forming even where there isn't a wound (there wasn't anything on her thigh before the sore formed) but I guess her toe could have rubbed on her shoe or something Confused.

I'm dreading the diabetes test though, DH has said that there is Type I as well as Type II in his family - just what she needs!

Poor little thing how horrible for her. DS had no pus, the cut on his foot looked fine, then he started feeling a bit fluey, then suddenly his foot swelled up and went red, his temp started to soar....grim, but improved quite quckly with anti-bs.

I hope the diabetes test is negative and has no connection and the antibiotics clear it up for good and soon.

DD1 gets a bit ratty, and feverish with the cellulitis but there is always pus, lots of pus (lucky old me!). the one on her thigh is ringed with an inch of red swelling at the mo.

Thanks for the good wishes - she's not had a blood test before (seen DD2 and me have a lot but none for her yet).
