Ideas for soothing chicken pox itching?

My nephew has the chicken pox. He's 2 and won't let me sister but any cream on him. Anybody any idea's of other ways she can sooth the itching?

put him in a bath with a handful of bicarb - you can get it in a big box from the chemist

my DD had it really badly at 2 & spent hours in the bath (had to top up regularly with warm water but she was so much more comfortable)

also I think you can get antihistamine on prescription if it's really bothering him & he won't allow anything topical put on

An anti-histamine such as Piriton syrup can help with the itching - but check with pharmacist for 2 year old. Not sure if you can still get Aveeno granules - smells like sheep dip in the bath but really soothing.

Both the above were recommended by a friend and worked for both my DC, but a long time ago now so maybe advice has changed.

Porridge oats in a sock/ stocking. Run the bath water through it then leave it in the bath with spotty child. Gloopy stuff that comes out of the porridge soothes the itches. (Also very good for eczema.)
