He is in so much pain he is really distressed and i don't know what else to do he keeps crying out as if the pain gets worse then setlles a bit and then repeats again!

How long has he been taking the anti-biotics?

bethers3 · 17/01/2012 18:04

he's only started them today, though the dr has just phoned and told me to stop the drops! his ear ache started sunday, i thought it was just the cold weather then at about midnight last night he became inconsolable he was at the drs by 9.30 this morn he is just so miserable but the dr has said if he gets worse in the night to take him to the hospital xx

Are you sure the eardrum has burst as usually that's when the pain stops?
try a hot water bottle in towels and some treat telly and hopefully he'll get some sleep tonight - if it's definitely burst then hospital in the morning sounds necessary, or earlier if he's totally inconsolable.
Poor poppet.

My little girl was similar with an ear infection and I very sheepishly took her to a and e as I had no idea what else to do, I quite expected a lecture but instead she was seen within ten minutes and given oral morphine and started on iv antibiotics for 24 hrs ... The ENT dr we saw said ear ache can be excruciating and he'd seen grown men cry .. Don't be afraid to seek more help

Aw your poor boy. A burst ear drum is agony. Hopefully the anti-biotics and codeine will do the trick and he and you can get some sleep. X
