Periorbital Cellulitis

DD is 16 months, noticed one eye was a bit swollen after nursery etc but no fever or obvious pain / discomfort. This morning she looked like she had gone 6 rounds with Mike Tyson - eye very swollen, could barely open it so we went straight to the A&E dept of our local eye hospital. Doc diagnosed a bacterial infection Periorbital Cellulitis and gave her both oral antibiotics and antibiotic ointment. The ointment is impossible to get in! Anyway having googled it, as you do, I am now worried sick about meningitis and other nasty complications - anyone have any experience of this?

My DH had it 18 months ago - it cleared up in a week or so, but he did have regular checks by the eye dept for some months as he had managed to get the infection into the orbit too

My daughter had this about 18 months ago, she was 12, although it was mis-diagnosed which led to her being hospitalises for a week on 2 lots of IV antibiotics, eye drops and steroids. After a couple of weeks she was fine.
