He has developed this cough (he had no codl or anything) just got this cough that sounds very dry and tickly. But this is now going on for about a month. In the last week he does the cough then makes this little "ugh" noise afterwards. I tried to ignore for a long time...now keep asking why he is doing it.
Should i go to the docs???
Sometimes he can cough about 6 or 7 times a min...then other times be quiet for ages!!
I dont know what to do about it?????

How old is he? My DS used to do something similar, but stopped as suddenly as he started. it was /annoying/worrying all at the same time.

He has just turned 7.

he is the most confident of kids anyway, and has very few friends...i believe cos he is VERY shy. So i just dont want any kids picking up on this at school....but then i dont know he does it at school....i will be asking teacher this week!!

I don't think DS1 knew he was doing it. It was mainly while he was sitting still, concentrating on a book, the tv etc. It was around the same age as your DS.

Definitely ask the teacher though. Hopefully it will be a phase like my DS.

It was longer than a month-maybe two, even three. I was on the verge of making an appointment on my own to talk to the GP about DS, as I didn't think he would do it for her to see IYKWIM.

Then DH pointed out he wasn't doing it any more. it was a throat clearing thing followed by a little noise-just like you describe. DS (now 12) was also very shy with little confidence.

I'd take to gp's to get it checked out. My son developed a cough( though he had a slight temp which went quickly) and he still has it a year later! Dr's wouldn't take it seriously until recently though the latest advice is the strangest - get him to chew chewing gum - its working !
I'd really try get it sorted sooner rather than later before his linings and nerves get damaged and forget how to work properly, ds2 is prob exception rather rule though don't mean to frighten you!
