It's not bothering dd but is raised and red and sore looking at front and back.

Metanium.

Brilliant stuff. I absolutely swore by it for my two. Just don't get it on your carpet. It won't come out and it's yellow.

Dragonwoman · 08/01/2012 00:41

I was told by my GP that vaseline is the best thing to use, as it builds up the best water barrier on the skin and doesn't sting.

NannyPlumIsMyMum · 08/01/2012 00:42

Hi yellow if Sudocrem isn't working - it could be thrush . I would make an appointment on Monday just to get it looked at . If it is , they will probably prescribe a cream . It's quite normal for babies to get thrush as a result of having a red bottom .

Petesmum · 08/01/2012 00:44

Another vote for metanium.

CalamityKate · 08/01/2012 00:44

Metanium. It's amazing stuff.

Casmama · 08/01/2012 00:44

I second metanium, could transform a sore red bottom overnight.

NannyPlumIsMyMum · 08/01/2012 00:44

Vaseline is ok for when the skin isn't red and sore - it's a good 'barrier' but it is not a treatment for nappy rash and will not soothe or calm inflammation .
Really if Sudocrem is not working I would get it looked at just to rule out thrush .

countessbabycham · 08/01/2012 00:45

Metanium is a must have IMO.

mamadivazback · 08/01/2012 00:45

I loved Bepanthen as everything else aggrivated DS' eczema for some bizarre reason Hmm

Casmama · 08/01/2012 00:45

X-post, I fourth metanium!

Bassface · 08/01/2012 00:45

Another metanium fan here! Sorts soreness out with one application Smile

RitaMorgan · 08/01/2012 00:46

Metanium, but if it is raised it sounds like thrush so you'll need canestan or daktarin from the GP.

HauntedLittleLunatic · 08/01/2012 00:50

You can get thrush treatment over the counter. Clotrimazole I think it is.

Metanium is also very good but won't deal with thrush.

kingbeat23 · 08/01/2012 00:51

Metanium, vaseline and bepanthem also do wipes as well as a cream. DD used to get horrific nappy rash when she was teething, that and too much fruit and she would have it badly.

Change her every 2 hours regardless of any kind of motion or not, if she's old enough and you have no carpets, no nappies at all and a smidge of one of these creams will do the trick. No bubbles in the bath and water only. Also, don't put the cream on too thickly as the skin also needs to breathe.

HTH

I'd get thrush diagnosed in a baby though before treating it with OTC medicine - not sure a pharmacist will sell it to you if they know it is for a small child?

HappyHippyChick · 08/01/2012 00:58

Have you changed your brand of wipes recently? My ds2 had dreadful nappy rash, which cleared when I changed to pampers sensitive. I didn't put two and two together until I changed to another brand and literally watched the rash come back as the wipe touched his skin :(

yellowflowers · 08/01/2012 01:08

Thanks. She's had thrush before when she was about a month and it looked completely different. I think it's because she just started nursery and a) they change her less often than me and b) she's having lots of new foods there

OP posts:
yellowflowers · 08/01/2012 01:08

I already use pampers sensitive wipes

She adores fruit. Maybe that is the problem. I will limit it for a few days and see.

Yes doing lots of nappy off time at moment. Will try product free baths too.

Thanks all

Bepanthen has usally sorted it for my lot Smile

Seona1973 · 08/01/2012 08:03

i found metanium with a layer of sudocrem over the top worked best

CurlyCasper · 08/01/2012 08:12

Sudocrem made my daughter's rash worse. She reacts really badly to it. Metanium, on the other hand, is a godsend. Every now and then someone at nursery accidentally uses sudocrem and the bad reaction is almost instant. I avoid the stuff like the plague.

lollystix · 08/01/2012 08:16

Metanium is magicWink

lollystix · 08/01/2012 09:40

But reading the thread fully it could be thrush if it's bumpy. Mine have had that when very little (newborn stage). You'd need cream from dr for this

yellowflowers · 08/01/2012 09:45

I don't think it is thrush - looks different from when she had thrush when teeny (she's now a year). But will buy one of the creams you suggest and go to doc if now better after day or so.
