It's not bothering dd but is raised and red and sore looking at front and back.

I agree metanium is magic, it clears it up very quickly I always had a tube of this about amazing stuff.

mousyMouse · 08/01/2012 09:54
  • metanium
  • nappy free time as much as possible
  • not using wipes (they sting), a flannel and warm water is better
  • bath with chamomile tea soothes

hope she is better soon!

metanium.....as a mother of 2 and childcarer for 20 years...thats the one i have found the best...and quickest!!! :)

RecursiveMoon · 08/01/2012 14:08

DS had bad nappy rash once - very red with white spots. I phoned his GP who prescribed a cream for thrush (and also some Metanium) over the phone.

BelfastBloke · 08/01/2012 16:35

Can you buy metanium off the shelf or over the counter?

mousyMouse · 08/01/2012 16:39

it's where the baby stuff is in the supermarket. just make sure you get the yellow pack and not the white one, which is just an ointment.

BelfastBloke · 08/01/2012 16:44

Thanks

lyra41 · 08/01/2012 17:01

kamillosan is good, but I also second Metanium abd Bepanthen1

lyra41 · 08/01/2012 17:01

sorry didn't mean to add the 1.

ViolaCrayola · 08/01/2012 18:22

I really recommend Weleda nappy cream. All natural and very effective- we call it magic cream :)

yellowflowers · 08/01/2012 20:42

Bugger just bought ointment at chemist two mins ago - yellow box but says ointment on it. But went back and they said that is the right one.

is the cream bright yellow? If so, you have the right stuff

Seona1973 · 08/01/2012 20:49

I have googled and the white pack is Barrier Ointment and the yellow pack is Nappy Rash Ointment (one is to prevent the nappy rash and the other is to treat it)

yellowflowers · 08/01/2012 20:50

Not opened yet as on bus back from pharmacy but it lists the active ingredient T-something metioned above.

Seona1973 · 08/01/2012 20:53

is it Titanium dioxide 20% w/w, Titanium peroxide 5% w/w and Titanium salicylate 3% - that is the right stuff

yellowflowers · 08/01/2012 21:04

That's the one.

Phew. Thanks for checking. Had made special trip.

If it turns out to be thrush, put the canesten cream on first followed by metanuim = stops the canesten being rubbed off my the nappy < speaking from experience with dd1>

Canella · 08/01/2012 21:11

Clean her bottom with cotton wool & baby oil at every change. Once clean, put some baby oil on it then put the nappy on as normal. Works a treat.

whenskiesaregrey · 08/01/2012 21:24

Also stop wipes altogether and use water and cotton wool pads for a while. DS seems to react worse to the pampers sensitive than to the normal pampers.

yellowflowers · 08/01/2012 21:31

Thanks. We did a lot of nappy off time today and yesterday and it's still there but less red.

How long should to take to see an improvement from the metanium?

OP posts:
mousyMouse · 08/01/2012 21:38

I would say go to the gp if you don't see an improvement by tomorrow noon. just to rule out thrush.

Quiltweight · 08/01/2012 21:44

Would altenatively suggest elizabeth arden eight hour cream. Stupidly expensive I know but clears up even quite bad (bleeding) nappy rash overnight or in 24 hours with two applications and one tube lasts forever, you only need a little bit when the rash is active (ie I don't use it as a barrier cream, just to clear things up when necessary)

Great for minor burns on adults, too, and sore noses from colds etc.

jellybeans · 08/01/2012 22:12

Bepanthen is the best and isn't yellow stainy like metanium!

yellowflowers · 08/01/2012 22:25

Yes that is exactly my plan mousymouse
