DH is with DD1 in a&e. She was sick in the night but no fever and acting perfectly fine this morning. We went on a playdate this afternoon and she was perfectly fine, then very quickly became glassy eyed and tired. Temp 39. Gave calpol, 15 minutes later temp now 40. Gave neurofen, 30 minutes later temp still 40 and she was asleep. Took her to a&e. She hasn't weed today (just this morning) and said she couldn't twice when she tried. Apparently did a little wee at a&e, then drank loads of juice and only got a dribble. Temp now normal and she's perked up. Any ideas??

UTI maybe. They'll sort it out I'm sure. Horrid when they suddenly drop like that isn't it?

Sirzy · 02/01/2012 20:06

A and E will sort her I am sure.

Hopefully pushing lots of juice will help her start weeing in the next few hours

Any swelling? How old is she?

banana87 · 02/01/2012 20:09

She's apparently just weed in the other sample. First sample was unequivicol?? They've said "just a virus" if sample comes back ok. I'm not buying it. She has no other symptoms, no cold, cough, etc.

Neurotic mum here! My eldest had nephritic syndrome. Symptoms were not producing urine and swelling. (Responded well to steroids and well now). No expert. If she was sick she could not have anything left to wee. Perhaps she overdid it at the playdate. Nursery and schools say stay at home for 48hrs to recover/avoid passing it on!

They've said it's a virus Sad. We had this 2 weeks ago, then 6 week DD got it and was nearly hospitalized. She was only sick once at about 2am. No swelling. She's feeling much better now apparently. No idea what to expect or do from here Sad

Urinary infection? Does it hurt to wee? Try cystitis relief stuff and take her to doctors?

TongueTwister · 02/01/2012 20:23

Or she's just dehydrated, lots of water not juice.

Sirzy · 02/01/2012 20:28

You just have to follow the advice of the staff and let the virus run its course, lots of fluids and monitor her fluid output for the next few days.

Well your youngest might not get it and worrying won't stop her getting it anyways :) dd was 12 months when dh, ds and I got swine flu - she was fine, you just never know!

I would make sure she drinks loads and loads, give her calpol if she needs it and if you're not happy or she isn't weeing / it hurts to wee then take her back.

Also, I'd try and stick to 3 hours between calpol / nurofen if possible - it means you aren't left with a gap where she can't have naything iyswim. Ime with ds it can take an hour for the feverr to drop but so long as it does then try not wo worry too much.

Hope you get some sleep tonight.

Oops this is yesterdays thread. Also, dd was 12 weeks during the swine flu debaucle, not months.
