DD just gone to A&E. Really scared

My husband has just rushed my 6 year old to hospital. She's been peaky since Christmas day, pale, off her food, sick once on boxing day, stomach pains,

Tonight she woke up at 2am crying because her legs kept shaking. This happened on and off for about 20 minutes. Then she said her tummy really hurt again and was sick once. Kept pointing to her right side and crying with the pain. NHS aren't even answering the phone so my husband has taken her to hospital, I wanted to go but she's too big for me to carry her comfortably. Got to stay her with my 3 year old.

Feel scared, and guilty that I'm not with her. Want my baby to be better.

Sorry no helpful advice, but she will be looked after when at the hospital. Try & get some rest when you can. My dds used to get shakes when they had very high temperatures, we used to be in & out of a&e like yoyos. Is there anyone who could look after your 3 year old so you can get to hospital?

DisTwinkleyMincePies · 31/12/2011 04:31

Sounds like her appendiz is grumbling. It's awful when they feel so bad and you feel so powerless to help.

At least she's going to be in the right place, and I'm sure that your DH will call you soon.

Tell me about your 3 year old. What's their favourite food?

DisTwinkleyMincePies · 31/12/2011 04:31

appendix

EttiKetti · 31/12/2011 04:39

You've done the best thing, sending them off there, she will be seen quickly and sorted out. Does sound like appendix, but they'll soon know. Have a cuppa xx

SofiaAmes · 31/12/2011 04:50

Sounds like appendicitis to me too. My 11 year old ds had his out in May. He barely stayed overnight (would have gone home if the hospital had let him). After the op my friend brought me a brazilian dinner at the hospital as I didn't want to leave ds. Ds took one look at it and insisted on getting special permission from the on call doctor to eat some of my dinner instead of the broth the hospital brought him which was so awful he said "mummy, I need a Life Straw to drink this, it tastes like dirty river water." He was back at school in a week (would have gone sooner if the surgeon had let him). Can't even see the scars now. They did it laparoscopically (we're in usa, don't know if it's the same in uk) and all he had was a hole in his belly button and two small 1/4" ones on his belly. He was very disappointed he had no permanent scars to show off.

SofiaAmes · 31/12/2011 04:52

Ds was also very disappointed he wasn't allowed to keep the removed appendix, but lovely surgeon (who had twin 11 year olds of his own) took a photo of it for ds!

Thank you everyone for replying, nice to not be alone!
Hospital said her blood sugar was low when she was admitted, but they retested 5 minutes later and it was normal. Just waiting for doctor.

Have a friend I can call at about 7 who will look after dd2. I'm amazed she has slept through it all!! Phone calls, crying, throwing up, taxis arriving!!

She willbe seen really quickly at thus time if the day. I can imagine how badly you want to be with her. Sad

GColdtimer · 31/12/2011 05:10

She is in the right place. Make yourself a cuppa and try to rest, I know you won't sleep. stick the tv on or at least.

Aftereightsaremine · 31/12/2011 05:10

Have a cup & some toast just to keep your energy levels up no point you feeling rough also.

Aftereightsaremine · 31/12/2011 05:11

X post with twofalls

yellowraincoat · 31/12/2011 05:14

Hey, just about to go to bed, but wanted you to know I am thinking of you and your little girl and sending you good thoughts

SofiaAmes · 31/12/2011 05:20

If you speak to your dh, make sure they don't give your dd anything to drink. If she's dehydrated, they need to do an iv, so that she doesn't have anything in her stomach for ga for op. Hospital should know...but just in case. It really is an amazingly simple, non-risky op considering the agony that precedes it! As ds said, the best thing about having your appendix out is that you can't "catch" it again. (Ds has a bad habit of having recurrences of things you are only supposed to get once).

clux73 · 31/12/2011 05:23

Thank you everyone. Still waiting for doctor. Pain has eased a bit, temperature normal.

Robotindisguise · 31/12/2011 06:28

Oh wonderful that she's on her way home. Poor lamb though...

GentleOtter · 31/12/2011 06:33

Good news that she is coming home, you must all feel shattered so please try to rest today.
Poor dd, I hope she feels better soon.

Aftereightsaremine · 31/12/2011 07:02

Great news lots of cuddles till she feels better.

GColdtimer · 31/12/2011 19:00

How is your dd this evening clux? Hope she is feeling a bit better.

JugglingWithGoldandMyrhh · 31/12/2011 19:06

So glad to read she's on her way home to you so soon !
Fab !

clux73 · 01/01/2012 12:23

Thanks again everyone for your concern. I really appreciate it.
Very pleased to report that she ate and drank fairly well yesterday, slept all night and has woken up this morning livelier and perkier than she has been for a week. Asked for, and ate, cereal and a boiled egg for breakfast and is now laughing hysterically at the Beethoven film on TV.

Ah, that's great to here clux

I hate in when mine are ill. Can be so worrying - perhaps we're programmed to worry about them so that we'll do everything we can to help them get better ?
And really tricky too when there's two to think of and you can't all be with the one you're worried about straight away.

Laughing sounds very good ! Smile
