i wonder if someone can offer some advice.

My 3 yr old woke with a high temp yesterday morning. Its around 39c mark. Calpol brings it down very slightly, but nurofen works best.

The nurofen bottle says no more than 3 doses in 24 hours. I gave a dose of nurofen at 6pm last night, 3.30am, calpol at 9.30am ( which didnt do a lot) and a dose of nurofen at 11.30 this morning. I cant give anymore nurofen until this evening now can I?

She is not eating and fairly listless and tired but thats it. No sickness or cold symptons.

How long do I let this go on for? She wont let me leave her side even for a wee! Is there anything obvious I am missing?

I'd pop her to the GP if you can't find a cause to the temp. Does she cry when she wee's? She could have tonsilitis or something but it's hard to say. You're best off popping her to the GP. Nurofen (ibuprofen) is good at reducing a temperature, Calpol is good at keeping it down. She needs plenty to drink to stop her from becoming dehydrated and you can use a fan if you have one, just make sure that it doesn't point directly on her so make it rotate. Don't worry about food at the moment.

My dd has chickenpox too. Hate to be the harbinger of doom nickinoo but you can get it more than once.

A boy at my friends son school, has had it 6 times! he's 9, for some reason his body will not make anti-bodies to the virus.

Hope she feels better soon.

Dd's recent illnesses that all started like that; uti, ear ache, and hand foot and mouth, plus colds.

I would go to the GP tomorrow with a urine sample. At our surgery the doctors always want to rule out an unexplained high temperature by testing the urine for infection. UTIs are nasty and can cause permanent kidney damage so please see if you can rule this out.

Peaceofcake do you mind if I ask why you asked if she cries when she wees? I took my DS to the Drs yesterday for high temp, nasty cough etc and he asked if he cried at all when he weed? Which he hasn't, I just didnt understand the significance. TIA

Cystitis, it's a sign of a UTI (there are others). Smile
