Ear infection or something else??

Dd1 has had this cough and cold for 2 weeks, now seems fine (just coughing a bit at night), today she said her ear hurt, i asked where and she pointed to her ear lobe which was a bit red, it seems to come and go (at the moment it seems ok), she hasn't got a temp and seems fine in herself. I dont really want to take her to the gp's unless i have too (don't fancy picking up any more bugs for christmas). Does it sould like an ear infection?

I would get it checked out because if it is an ear infection and it doesn't calm down by itself you are going to end up with a screaming child throughout the night and camping for hours at some surgery/hospital over Christmas.

I say this because my 3 yr old had a stinky cold that didn't go. After 10 days he started with a temp. I was convinced it was just viral. After 4 days of having a temp that went up and down ( he was fine when it was down), I took him to the GP. He had an ear infection, a chest infection and possibly a throat infection but he wouldn't open his mouth. 1 month on he is still below par health wise, immune system pants and I have the mummy guilts.

Thanks pancake, will see how she is in the morning and take her to the GP if its hurting, she seems ok now but it seems to come and go.

If she hasn't got a temperature, seems fine and hasn't a history of ear infections/burst ear drums then I don't expect you're going to get anything other than "viral infection" from a GP.
Having said that I'd see if you can get an non-emergency appointment to check that there isn't anything worse.

She seems fine today ,just a slight head ache but that seems to be a regular thing with her anyway. She hasn't had a ear infection sinse she was 2 (she's almost 8). Now i have come down with some virus (probably what dd1 had last week, soar throat etc) so i dont fancy having to take her to the gp, fingers crossed she will be fine.

Hopefully the virus is on it's way out for your DD. Just get yourself better now.

Ended up taking her to the gp today, her ear was fine but she now has a UTI so is on antibiotics (at least if her ear does have a slight infection it should clear up whilst treating the UTI).
