Threadworms - pharmacy or GP?

So DD1 woke up just now because she was sore, and voila, there's a little white wormy fecker.

Looking at the NHS website it says there's a different medicine given to under 2s (DD2 is 19mths) but it doesn't say whether this is available without prescription, unlike the over-2s one which it says is.

Does anyone know? I don't know whether to bother ringing for an emergency appointment tomorrow morning when I could just get everything from the chemists although getting it on prescription would make it cheaper

Thanks

I think you need prescription. Phone docs say it doesnt need appt as you saw worm just ask to collect a prescription ASAP
Hygiene is v important for rest of family now so have a bit of a google on that.

Thanks, that sounds like a good idea to phone, plus it avoids the whole nightmare of having to take all three of them to the GPs at the same time.

I have looked at the hygiene stuff, I feel exhausted just thinking about it for tomorrow!! Plus DS was sick everywhere tonight so the washing machine is going to be on overdrive.

Joys of parenting that they don't mention in the books numbers 385 and 386: spooning sick out of the blocked sink, and wiping away threadworms...

I'm sure you can buy it over the counter without prescription - I think Pripsen is the one for under 2's

ginmakesitallok · 19/12/2011 11:23

Some pharmacists where I am are able to directly prescribe themselves for minor ailments- I got pripsen for dd2 without a prescription from gp

My lovely lovely GP has written a prescription, they then deliver it to the pharmacy for you and I'll be able to collect this afternoon. And DS has stopped vomiting, so that's a bonus!

Right, I'm off to buy shares in anti-bac wipes? Xmas Grin ? really appreciate the help and advice. Just hope it bloomin works!!
