Keeping plaster cast clean/dry

Following on from my thread where DS2 (9) fractured his wrist last Satuday but we only went to the hospital yesterday Blush

He now has a bright blue 'soft cast' for 3 weeks. I assume it will get filthy-any tips? Also any better suggestions then a plastic bag over it at shower time? Thought about getting him some wipes for washing his hand?

Cling film for shower time, though a bath may be easier.

Sparklingbaubles · 15/12/2011 11:57

Hadn't thought of cling film, thanks scurry. I think this cast is going to be a real PITA. Poor DS.

He needs a Limbo - they really work well. I just dibble my fingers in the sink to wash them when in plaster

Piffpaffpoff · 15/12/2011 12:02

You can buy a heavy duty plastic bag thing with an elasticated cuff that goes over the cast to keep it dry. I think they are called Limbos, they come in different sizes. Dh found them invaluable when he broke both his wrists!

Piffpaffpoff · 15/12/2011 12:04

Ha, great minds think alike CMOTdibbler

Sparklingbaubles · 15/12/2011 12:09

Do they sell the Limbos anywhere or just mail order? Your poor DH piff, how did he do it?

Love the word 'dibble' CMOT. Describes it perfectly. Grin

Just mail order - you can buy other ones in chemists, but imo they aren't as good

Sparklingbaubles · 15/12/2011 12:37

Thanks CMOT. I will investigate. Ds 1 is 12 and this is the first broken bone for either DS so I think we have done quite well. Just hope it's not the start of a spate!

This will out me to anyone who knows me but it was mountain biking and it was 4 weeks before our wedding. How I didnt kill him (once I knew he was ok!) I'll never know but I've never let him forget it. Could have been worse though, he had a query fractured thigh bone as well but thankfully it was ok. And the facial lacerations were nearly healed for the wedding photos! This is actually a pretty good likeness of how he looked Confused.

Sparklingbaubles · 15/12/2011 17:43

Poor DH Piff. I bet he was as upset as you were. Sad

I think he was more upset that he was off his bike for six months to be honest! Poor thing, I think he gave himself quite a fright. We can laugh at it now but it was all a bit overwhelming at the time.

Sparklingbaubles · 15/12/2011 20:21

I can imagine Piff. Sad DS very upset about no footy.
