I'm new on here so here goes...
My ds is 8 wks old, bottle feed but earlier today when changing his nappy we noticed that there was traces of blood in his poo.
There wasn't much blood but I'm sure it can't be normal - has anyone else experienced a similar thing??

I am sure this is likely to be he has pushed a little hard. My DD did this and still does occasionally, she gets little cuts near her bottomSad it was only a little blood though.

Formula makes the poo a little firmer than if BF I think which is what the doctor told me when I went. See if you can some little nicks near his bottom, if so put some Vaseline on his bottom when dry which will help them heal.

All mine have had this at various points including when entirely bf. I've had to do a swab for the dr. but it's never shown a problem.

My DS had this frequently, the GP was unconcerned because it was only small traces of blood, he said it was common and that it was probably from straining.

thanks everyone ... i think i'll keep an eye on it and if it increases i'll take ds to see dr

My ds1 had this, together with mucus, and it was the first sign of his cows milk allergy.

hellebell · 11/12/2011 21:59

hi Barbarianmum - maybe i will take ds to see the dr....better to be safe than sorry

Is it fresh red? If so then there's less reason to worry.

Its more than likely from straining. I'd call the hv tomorrow if you're worried but that's because I avoid the germ ridden gp surgeries at all costs

Is he well in himself otherwise? My son also had it from birth with mucous and vomiting, was a sign of inflammation in the gut. I would advise you to take him to GP or speak to your HV. Also get his weight checked if he hasn't had recent one.
Good Luck.

he's really well in himself - eating and gaining weight no problem. He had his 8 wk check up last wk and all was well.
think i'll get him checked out by GP or HV
Thanks everyone for the posts
