Flat head on one side-8 weeks old

Ds4 is 8 weeks now. A couple of weeks ago I noticed his head (which was fine at birth) was flattening one side. Gp said I should mention it at his 8 week check this week coming. I've seen an osteopath who said he had a strained neck hence why he's favouring one side to sleep on (this seems to be getting worse - choosing 'the favoured side that is) and I'm seeing her neck week again but I was wondering if anyone had had the same and how it had developed?

It sounds like he has torticullus and it could develop into plagiocephaly if not treated. You will be told this is a cosmetic problem but it isn't and would need further treatment. You need to get exercises to work the neck and try and encourage baby as much as possible to lie the other way. He also will need his assymetry measured if he continues to favour one side.

He is favouring the side because of his neck, which is then flattening that side so making it more comfortable.

Search on yahoo as there are lots of support on there for plagio parents.

Thanks - been googling all morning- hopefully we've caught it early enough and at least I've started with the osteopath. I know the gp will just take a 'well if you want to waste your money on that' stance- he's very dismissive so any form of referral may be a fight. A friend's son had a much more pronounced asymmetry and was told by the paeds that it would resolve itself on it's own and now he is much older and it hasn't.

I've ordered some special pillow and keep checking him in his crib to shift his head the other way
