DD has had dilated pupils for 3 weeks, anyone know why?

For the last few weeks DD age 6 has had pupils like saucers, they do react to light though and are equal - at least twice the size of mine only about 1mm of iris visible - any ideas?!
It's really noticable, she says her vision is fine and she hasn't had a head injury as far as I know. V, weird, has anyone else experienced this?!

I would be taking her to optician or GP asap!

Agree with 3littlefrogs. It's very hard to tell if your vision has changed unless it's an immediate change.

Xmas Shock I'll take her to opticians tomorrow! Thanks

Hope she's ok

Hi Hippymum89,

If associated with a significant headache (i.e she's complaining of a headache without being asked....) then phone NHS 24 or go to A & E

If no headaches and generally well, take her to an optometrist (optician) tomorrow. They will be able to get her checked at short notice and have a thorough assessment of her eyes and make an onward referral to the eye Dr if needed.

But if her pupils are reacting to light and no headache do not panic. It may be that she has naturally large pupils and as its getting so much darker over the past few months it could be coincidental.

She's not had access to any medications has she?

Hippymum89 · 09/12/2011 21:05

Hi, she's had no meds, she has just had a seasonal virus that's going round school but is better again now (full of beans actually!), I first noticed the eye thing at the end of Nov.
Confused

If she is fine and well, then dont worry too much , but do take her to an optician, just to be on the safe side.

Bet she's as high as a kite as it's sooo close to christmas!!! Xmas Grin

Its' amazing how you can scare yourself **less when you google symptoms!
Dilated pupils and hyperactivity = ADHD!!!

Flipping heck Xmas Hmm

(I don't seriously think this is the case for her btw Xmas Grin and thanks for all comments x

hope she is okay. FWIW my dd gets large pupils if she is tired, and this can last for a period of days after an illness. No idea why, it's just a quirk of hers...

Hippymum89 · 09/12/2011 21:49

Thanks crispface that does make more sense, Xmas Smile

Hi Hippymum89,

Did you go to an optician yesterday? Hope it all went well.....

Hippymum89 · 12/12/2011 20:40

Hiya, No, her eyes were back to normal so will just watch and wait for now, it does sound the same as 'Crispface's little one
Thanks though! Xmas Grin
