Dd1 (7) has had a bad cold for a few days (bad cough, very snotty nose), up until now her temp has been ok but today it has shot up to 39, she's on the sofa wearing a jumper, pj bottoms and covered with a duvet but she's still shivering. Her cough is very loose and she keeps having huge coughing fits, when i put my ear to her back it sounds slightly wheezy but no rattle. Gp wont see her until later this afternoon.

Does this sound like a chest infection?

Dd2 and i had the virus last week, dd2 has almost recovered and i had it very mild, dd1 seems to be getting worse Sad.

Yes sounds like a chest infection. The reason she's shivering is due to the fever, take her duvet off her and give her a thin cotton sheet and dress her in cool clothes.

Thank you, i took her to the doctors and her chest was clear, they said its just a nasty virus but to keep an eye on her over the weekend as it may turn into a chest infection, poor thing is feeling grotty and has gone to bed shivering with a high temp, she also refused her dinner which is unlike her. Hopfully she will feel beter in the morning after a good sleep.

This is VERY unlikely to happen but it happened to us so I'm just letting you know...

Ds had a very high temp (40 with calpol + nurofen and rising) and was very ill after having flu. Had him back and forth to docs as was convinced it was his chest, essentially told I was paranoid, eventually so ill they gave him a chest x ray and it was pneumonia.

Now, like I say I'm only telling you this just in case because it is very very very unlikely to happen and ds was extremely obviously ill and had a ridiculously high and uncontrollable temp.
