Since Tuesday DD has had a bit of a cough and temp but been keeping it down with calpol. She was a lot better yesterday, cheerful etc. we popped into town and she started coughing loads and was sick. Since we got back yesterday she's been ok-ish, temp has gone, she's slept etc but this morning onwards has been awful. No temp, not much of a cough but constant crying and refusing to sleep. She just wants to lay on me but then jerks and starts screaming again. I don't know what to do. It seems a bit silly to drag her to the walk in for 4 hour plus wait when she doesn't even have a temp

Poor her. Could it be ear infection or similar? Hope she feels better soon. Why are kids only ever poorly at the weekend?

Her ear doesn't seem red but possibly. She's finally fallen asleep so I'm hoping that helps. DS was like this last year so I'm hoping they dont both end up ill Xmas day again!

probably just grizzly because she won't have had a restful sleep if she's not feeling good. I would just have a jammies day, try and get lots of fluids into her.

Ds rarely gets a red ear with an ear infection. He occasionally has a red cheek.

What I notice is him pulling/banging his ear, leaning on my hand or a cushion with his ear covered, tipping his head on one side and trying to scratch inside his ear.

If it's really bad then he may stop speaking and start signing, but that is more associated with loss of hearing. Conversely he can also find loud noises exceedingly painful.
