Mystery rash on 1 year old

Yesterday morning I noticed red spots on my 1 year old son, mostly on his arms, with a few on his legs, face and bottom. I assumed it was chicken pox, although he doesn't have a fever, is eating and seems quite cheerful, but the rash doesn't seem to be following the pattern of chicken pox. Some have scabbed over straight away, others still look like papules, but I haven't seen any blistering. There aren't very many; maybe 20 spots in total and they don't seem to be spreading. I'm wavering on whether to take him to the GP, as I'm guessing that if it is chicken pox I shouldn't be leaving the house at all, but OTOH if it isn't I want to know what it is, and if it needs treating!

I've been googling all the childhood illnesses with rashes I can think of, and none of them look like the spots DS has.

Any ideas? Should I risk the GP?

molloscum contagium? Are the spots like pearls?

I did wonder about MC, but the spots on his arms are quite dry and scabby / crusty. The ones on his face have disappeared already. I'm baffled!

If you take him to the GP just let them know beforehand the reason for the visit and they should isolate you on arrival if you remind them.

Mild chickenpox??

Does he have them on his hands and feet? My DC have both had Hand, Foot and Mouth this week. Small red spots, plus some white blisters on the hands, going up their arms, on the feet up to their knees and then in their mouths and a few on their face. Also a few on their bottoms.

NHS direct have a good diagnosis tool for this.
