He's 13 months. He's had a bad cough and a stuffy nose all week, and I think he has teeth coming through.

We've had him crying once or twice in the night all week, but last night he woke at 2 and has been screaming in pain ever since. He's completely exhausted, but has only slept two 30 minute snatches since then.

Since 2 he's had one dose of calpol, one of neurofen and teething gel where we could get it (he doesn't want to open his mouth). We took him out in the pram at about 4.30 to try to get him to sleep, and DH is going to take him out again now.

But is there anything else we can do to help? I think he can have another dose of pain killer, but it doesn't seem to do much :(

I'm pretty sure it's just his teeth, his cheeks are burning, and I'm sure the cold isn't helping, but I've never seen him in so much pain and so miserable before.

yes, when my DD was 1 i would not have had a clue about an ear infection either!

Thanks :) you're making me feel much better.

He's been sleeping for over an hour now after a dose of antiBs and some nurofen. Fingers crossed another dose will get him a decent way through the night.

Actually, I'm quite glad it's turned out to be something that needs to be treated - because treating it will make it better quickly. If it was teething we'd be looking at maybe no relief for it.

Glad he has treatment. I got told off by gp the other week for not taking dd in sooner for her cough...... Turned out she needed anti bs . We've all done it.

So glad he's got treatment, he'll feel better in no time

Please don't feel guilty though - my DD took sick at 3 months old, so I called OOH to the house. They immediately called an ambulance! She had bronhiolitis and O2 sats of 80% she had to be nebulised 5 times a day for 2 weeks before she improved. As others have said, its hard to make the judgement
