Hello,
My DN has apparently had this for a few weeks now, according to my brother. Is she a bit young for piles (which do run in the family)? what else could it be? She is not apparently constipated. I have told him to take her to GP to check it out but just wondered if anyone had any thoughts in the meantime. Thanks

I used to get this Blush - it doesn't always mean piles etc- It can just be that there's been a little tear caused by straining etc - it's then tricky to heal as you keep 'opening the wound' so to speak. you dont have to be constipated just have a few harder poos. Try given lots of Fibre and see what you can do to soften the stools, then it will give her poor bum a chance to heal.

Do check it out with a gp though!

Ah, that's very interesting, MotherPanda, i will pass those thoughts on. I can ceryainly see why a little tear down there wouldn't heal very quickly. Thank you.

My DD had this at about the same age - a little bit of blood looks like a scary amount on tissue paper! - In DD's case it was a little tear - mainly I think because she tended to do rather large poos, the GP gave us some cream and it healed up very quickly Smile She might also get given something to soften her stools so they are easier to pass when she goes.

I think piles are fairly uncommon in a child that young.

Yes, I second (third?) the other posters. Anal fissure. Irritating, but there are some topical ointments that can help.
