3 week old breathing - please help?

my 3 wk old has always breathed quite loudly, and done loads of panting. But tonight his chest/stomach seems to be rising with every breath. He does not have a temperature and is sleeping soundly. The doc listened to his chest yesterday and said he was fine, but m lying here watching him, getting myself worried. Is this normal?

If you are worried call nhs direct.

Is his chest / tummy being sucked in?

Call your out of hours gp - they can speak to you and will usually ask you to bring baby in to be checked over or to go to gp tomorrow. It's better to be sure - they won't think you are wasting their time.

I have been told the biggest indicator to look for with DD is whether the skin is being drawn in around the collar bones as she inhales. If so, she is having to work too hard. If this is happening, I have been told to take DD to A&E and when I have called out of hours GP, they have sent an ambulance.

You can have a look at this page however I would say to call nhs or ooh docs as your baby is so wee.

Hope all is ok and you're ok too.

Sure he's fine but I agree OOH or A&E just to be sure. Just be aware if you do take him in, given his age and the time of day they may well want to keep him under obs over night so pack everything you need until tomorrow morning to be on the safe side. Took my DS in due to very rapid/ odd breathing at 2 weeks old and we had to stay until morning rounds in the hospital just because of his age. Hope all is ok.
