Reaction to amoxicillin?

My 20 month old DS was given amoxicillin yesterday as he an ear infection. He hasn't been in masses of pain with it, but he hasn't really been eating much or sleeping well.
I gave his 3 5ml doses yesterday. He slept better last night, and has been eating better.
But, he's been hyper virtually all day. He's has loads & loads of energy, and has just not own what yo do with himself. He's been having tantrums every 5 minutes, and has been really clingy.
His dad took him out for a really long walk, but he still didn't seem to burn off energy.
He often gets hyper & over active for short periods of time, but never all day. We've been his GPs all day, and they were wondering if he's having a reaction to his medicine?
Is that possible? Could it be making him hyper?

I would expect a reaction to amoxicillin to cause a rash or swelling. Could be from being unwell, many children bounce back and forward in how they are when they are unwell.

On the other hand there is a small chance it could be the colouring in the medication.

Yes, reaction would usually be swelling, I came out in hives
Good call about the colouring, could be that

I was wondering about the colouring too, I'll look into it. Thanks for the replies :)

My experience with getting hyper as a reaction is that it kicks in fairly quickly. I'm happy to be corrected on this, because I'm epeaking only from my own children's experience. I used to reckon with dd2 I had a half an hour window after calpol to get her to sleep before it kicked in.
Ds gets hyper on a couple of things and, again, it's within an hour of having it. He does get hyper of one of the antibiotics (had a lot of them, I can't remember which one). Check the side effects list if you're interested to see if it's listed.

You haven't been giving him orange juice have you? Because it was ages before I found out that can be involved in kids becoming hyper.
