*TMI ALERT* Toddler with blood in stools

Hi, was changing my 2 year old dds nappy this evening and noticed some streaks of blood through her poo, medium to dark red in color. Obviously am bringing her to out of hours doctor in the morning but am just wondering if anyone has come across this before and what was the cause. My first thoughts would be constipation, straining and maybe a little tear from the stool being hard but her stools are tbh not really that hard and tend to be (sorry tmi) more on the mushy side really. She was up a few nights this week with tummy pains too but no temp. Should probably add am in Australia hence time difference

Thanks in advance xxx

My previous experience has told me that fresh red blood would suggest a tear or straining, blood that is dark and is congealed and is wrapped in the stool would suggest something more worrying, either way i would have it checked.

All of my dc have had this at some point, it's never been anything sinister. They've sometimes wanted a sample, other times the doctor has seen a crack where the blood was coming from. It's never caused any problems. HTH.
