is it ok to give if nothing else containig paracetamol has been given?? DD is quite poorly with a cold, runny nose and raspy breathing. she also has dry cough - she sounds bit like a barking dog. we have tried vaporisers and karvol but its not really working. i seem to remember medised stopping the runny nose for my son but notice that medised is now not for under 2s. have the ingredients changed in last few years???

Medised is not for under 6s so absolutely not. You myst have a very old bottle if it says 2+ so sling it out.

It is not recommended for under 6yo as there is concern that it may cause breathing difficulties. And the benefits were found not to be great enough to outweigh the risks of giving to younger children.

I would not give it to her. If she has trouble breathing, then phone the GP and ask for advice on what you can safely give her.

ok thank you - i thought she seemed a bit young. not sure how old the bottle is - i think DS only had one dose (advised by dr i think) so yes i will throw it out. thanks!

Is she ok now, shelley? Barking cough sounds a bit croupy - tis the season. Hope she has an ok night.

Medised went from under 2s to over 2s to over 6s at the same time as other medications. Understand your confusion - it was 'still ok' for dd1, but went to 'over 2s only' when dd2 was about the same age as your dd. Though dd2 (unlike dd1) did take it anyway, as per doctor's recommendation, because snotty noses pretty much made it impossible for her to breathe - she had an underlying condition that needed surgery to correct, so Medised (and junior otravine) were a godsend at times.

Ingredients haven't changed, no - but advice has.
