Can you still get strep throat with no tonsils

Hi ds 5 had his tonsils removed last year because of recurrent tonsillitis. He has had a high temperature(39 ish) for two days isn't really eating or drinking much but will play a little bit. He is saying that his tummy and throat hurt and he cant open his mouth completely because it hurts.I have looked in his mouth as much as poss and it does look red.
Does anyone know if this could be strep throat?
Thanks

No idea, but I'm pretty sure that having no tonsils doesn't stop strep from developing.
