11mo swallowed lego - should we panic?

Are waiting call-back from nhs direct but thought would see if anyone else had same thing happen.
ONly saw it in her mouth so not sure of size - either 2 piece or possibly 4 piece, but can't see how she could have swallowed the latter. She swallowed it very easily and is completely unconcerned by it, but we are obviously worried whether it could cause problems in her intestines.

Anyone had this happen?

It will come through the other end, keep an eye out for it over next couple of days.

I don't know, MrsJamesMartin, a poster on MN once swallowed a small piece of Lego as an experiment (there was a whole thread on it!) and never saw any trace of it again..... She was absolutely fine though, so I wouldn't worry!

but dd is only 15 and a half pounds - ie she is tiny and a piece of lego is relatively big for her?

If she is breathing normally and not showing signs of pain/distress, then the advice will be to wait for it to reappear. It happens a lot, and is almost always harmless.

I'm not sure if you should panic- was it an important piece for the lego set?

Only joking, honestly don't worry, he'll probably be fine and eat much worse over the next few years...

If it has gone in without getting stuck, the choke danger is over and she will most likely be fine.

She's swallowed it without any problem though hasn't she, really don't be concerned.

just a note of caution. My DS swallowed a key ring and after a call to NHS direct I was advised that although it would almost certainly be fine he should go to hospital and have an xray to make sure that it had sucessfully made its way into his stomach. Once it reaches the stomach it should have no problem coming out the other end. The hospital did the xray and sure enough there it was. They told me that if it hadn't passed in two weeks I would have to take him back. I'd wait to the NHS to call back (they may have been more concerned as the key ring was metal not plastic) but they may well tell you to take her in even if she is absolutely fine in herself.

thanks all, yes the advice has been to let it pass naturally and take to dr if not gone through in 2 weeks.
