another blood test required

ds (5) had a fasting blood test today to check for diabetes, i got a phone call this evening saying that they needed him to go back for another blood test because it showed traces of mild anamia? any advice? why another blood test?

They could be looking for causes of anaemia, as anaemia is a symptom/finding rather than an illness in itself. There are different sorts of anaemia and I would expect they are looking for more information.

For example, they might want to rule out bowel problems, they might want a blood test to look for signs of inflammation. Or if the result was borderline they may want a repeat test, as it would be a shame to start treatment he didn't actually need.
