New glasses for 4yr old

Hi,

My ds started to wear glasses to correct a vision problem in May. We got him 2 pairs and had an NHS voucher towards one of them.

He now won't wear one of them (Mr Tickle was for nursery apparently and now he's at school he can't possibly wear them!!!!) and the other pair he will wear had the arm bent 180 degrees yesterday.

I'm going to optician to buy him another pair tomorrow and know the repair may come under the NHS cover they offer. I just wondered if anyone could advise how often the NHS contribute towards a pair of glasses. I know 5 months on is unlikely but wondered if he was allowed a new pair every year or is it just a one off?

Thanks

When you bought them were you offered insurance?

WannabeNigella · 02/10/2011 19:51

No I don't remember being offered any. I'm not so worried about having a repair done, just want to get him another pair and wonder if/when he'll get any contribution to another pair anyway.

Sorry, I don't know.

You get a new pair every 12 months from the NHS but the do repair them free or rreplace if they are totally knackered, childrens glasses are very robust though, the only ones my ds has had to get replaced were the pair that lost a fight with a lawnmower!

Fab. Thanks for that Wink

I can't believe how good they are actually. Thought I'd be back and forth constantly for repairs and not had to yet.

That should have been a Smile not a Wink lol.
Looks like I'm up to something dodgy!

Ds bounced off a trampoline landing on his face on concrete, needed hospital treatment yet the superman glasses remained intact, we took them back to asda and they bent them back into shape!
