My daughter's vaginal opening is totally sealed

My daughter is nearly 3. She has been potty trained for nine months or so and therefore I have not seen her bits close up for a long while. She has been complaining that she has "drops of wee" in her. I usually respond by wiping but she often continues to fuss. Today I took a closer look and her whole area is smooth. I can see no vaginal or urethral opening. Clearly there must be a tiny hole somewhere as wee does get out but there is no visible hole. And now I think of it her wee often comes out in a high arc which never happened with DD1 and might suggest the whole is tiny or oddly placed.

I have googled a bit and found a lot about labial adhesions where the labia minor stick together. Apparently this is common in small girls. But I'm not sure that's what she has got. It does not look like labia stuck together, it looks totally smooth. Wld fused labia not look like a bump? And would labial adhesions hide the urethral hole?

Any words of wisdom really appreciated.

Go see Gp - I had something similar as a small child and according to my folks - both doctors - it was a v minor procedure to correct matters and have no issues.

Sorry no advice from me but I remember a very similar thread on here in the not too distant past - i think it was labial adhesions in the end. Do a search under that term on here? I think that the other options which were mooted on the thread were also 'solvable' -hope you get a good answer. and obviously take her to the GP - good luck.

I've heard of this being solved with hormone cream before. Go to the docs they will judge what treatment she needs :)

Obviously I will take her to the GP but realistically that won't be for a few days so I just wanted to see if anyone had any thoughts on whether it sounds like labial adhesions.

My DD has this. Luckily, I noticed it about a week or so after the thread about another mum whose DD had labial adhesions, or I would have completely freaked out!!! Apparently it's not uncommon, and should reverse itself once hormones kick in at puberty.

I took DD to the doc (as should you, just to be sure all is OK) who said that as long as enough of an opening remains for her to urinate, there's nothing to worry about. Then when she gets older, if it doesn't open up again on its own, they can try creams etc.

But as you say, it just looks like the vagina isn't there - just the outer labia and nothing inside them. But it's no reason to worry, and don't stress if you can't see the GP for a couple of days unless she looks like she's having trouble passing urine.

PS - if she had a vaginal opening when she was a baby (which you would have noticed with nappy changes etc), then it can't have gone missing! So it is very likely to be labial fusion, which does just look like smooth skin.

I know you are right that the opening must have been there before. Of course it must, I surely would have noticed otherwise. But I keep getting paranoid that maybe it's always been like this and it's something more serious.

My dd's got the same - a coincidence I've seen this thread as I've only noticed it tonight. She complained of a sore bum today so I decided to have a 'proper' check that everything looked ok, and lo and behold she has no opening. It's bizarre - I know she did when she was younger (she's almost 4) but it's disappeared. I'm very relieved to have seen this thread and know it's not uncommon, and the NHS website says treatment isn't necessary, so I'll probably only go to the GP if she continues to say it's sore.

Really Queen, you don't think the GP should just check that it is labial adhesions? I had assumed I really should get her checked. I mean what is it is an imperforate hymen or other? I have googled pics of labial adhesions and many have at least a small hole. My DD really hasn't got any visible hole. Does your DD?

I think because I knew there used to be a hole I'm not too bothered - I've not googled it but this on the NHS website describes it exactly, and says treatment usually isn't recommended unless it causes an infection. Apparently it's common for the hole to seal completely leaving just a tiny opening to wee through, which is exactly what dd's looks like - I can't actually see the hole she wees through but she doesn't have any trouble weeing so it must be there!
